Research tells us that in the UK there are over 2 Million vacancies per annum, so the issue isn’t lack of jobs – it is more a question of increased competition for these jobs. The Recruitment Industry cites all sorts of figures ranging from 23 applicants for every vacancy to over 100 in some competitive sectors.

So, what does this tell you – if you thought your CV was not that important, then think again – it is the single most important factor for you to secure an interview.

Given the huge competition for jobs, and the fact that nearly all roles are short-listed for based upon the contents of a CV, it is paramount that your CV is much more than a list of jobs with half a dozen bullet points underneath each one. (Does this sound familiar?)

Some employers have become so fed up with CVs being wholly inadequate that they have switched their attentions to having candidates fill out application forms online – this is definitely a growing trend and simply highlights the disconnect between what employers want to see on a CV and what they are receiving.
